I survive, he/she/it survives, we survive, they survive
cf review online "droits de cités" by Marta Orlando ( about esthetism & risks)

photos credit : Marta Orlando (polish camp workers in Italy TODAY!)
drawings on transparent : Nicky Miller

Collaboration with Marta Orlando (Artist and architect from Itlay) around the thematic of " survival today", as an emergency observation.
Here is a drawing to built a survivance in a polish camp of workers in Italy.
How to get clean water, lights , and organic food recycling the material found in the camp.

correspondances by email between nicky and Marta:

nicky :
i think one photo is stronger than a serie,,,
it is dealing by one proposal of "making possible" an architecture of survival

no?

and i think a video is a longer work to think about it, also i am very sensitive with spectacular images, that i found today not on purpose;;;

if you want to talk about an emergency you don't have to show a spectacular " form" of it,, the more it is suddle the more there is an impact

so for the video i prefer we do it later, cause then we really need to think about what means an image in this case;;;

i think it is stronger to write his words by typewriting it, also a video could be a prejudice on this homeless, and i think of not using people, but making a connection with them;;;

the drawing yes we could finalize on Venice, but we could setup a plan now, by sending scanners of drawing we are making using one photo ;;;
i've got the polish camp photos,, so let's try with different one,

i will send one tomorrow

tell me what you are thinking about my comments

Marta :

hi nicky, i'm agree on your comments about the spectacular images, and more impact. and we don't have time for making a video, the point of view of this man was interesting, because in our meeting he  imaginated a new city, like the "Babylon" project of Constant, and in this video i wanted to explain this.
like a little testimoniance, but you're right, we don't have many time for  working on the video, and it could be another topic.
Tomorrow i'll send you a drawing on possible architecture of surviving, based on polish camp, and others places...
see u soon!

about an imagining city following the story of an homeless man in Rome.

nicky :

but for the interviews, how do you think you gonna do? because i  already worked with homeless people at the last Emergency Room in Paris and it is quite long to get  a dialogue...
-------------
marta :

yes, i know it's difficult to work with homeless, unfortunately i'll spend a little time in Rome, maybe only two days, and it's impossible to get a dialogue with people in two days.
but i wanna try to not make a documentary on homeless condition, if it's possible i'll make a short, informal interview about their life conditions.
it's most important is to have a shots, images of their house.
we'll see!

nicky :

so let's fix a starting point : House and Camps could be a good one no?

i notice that most of them are related to nomadics and walkscape, which is also the base of reinventing territories.
it's very beautifull this link with the polish workers, i wish you will get a wonderfull exchange.

Marta :

i went to the camp, but because i was alone, so no more photo today!
in the camp they were worried, and they don't like so much photocamera, and i must  take  an appointment with a social operator for coming back there.
But, in the afternoon, after 2.00 am i go to another camp,
these images are a abandoned places, that immigrants and gypsies used for  living sometimes.
